Free Summer Teacher Institute on Work
Oregon Humanities offers teachers the chance to explore the nature of work, the challenges and opportunities of tomorrow’s workers.

Oregon secondary school teachers will have the chance to examine the topic of work at a free summer institute sponsored by Oregon Humanities (formerly Oregon Council for the Humanities).
“The Way We Work: History Lessons for a New Economy” is a free weekend program offered to Oregon secondary school teachers and will be held July 8–11, 2010, at Reed College in Portland. The registration deadline for the institute is April 23, 2010. Interested teachers may register online at oregonhumanities.org.
Enrollment is limited and preference is given to first-time participants and full-time Oregon secondary school teachers. Institute participants earn thirty hours of continuing education credit. Two optional graduate credits... More
Free College Course For Low-Income, Salem-Area Adults

This summer, adults living on low incomes in the Salem area who want to explore challenging ideas about power, justice, knowledge, and community will have a chance to participate in Humanity in Perspective (HIP), a free, one-semester, college-credit course in the humanities. HIP, a program of Oregon Humanities (formerly Oregon Council for the Humanities OCH), is offered in Salem in partnership with Willamette University. Applications should be submitted by Monday, March 15, 2010.

Contest Invites Essays on Mind-Changing Moments

Oregon Humanities (formerly Oregon Council for the Humanities) invites Oregonians from across the state to enter the O. Hm. essay contest and share a moment of insight or surprise—a time when they’ve read, seen, or heard something that changed the way they think about the world.
