Oregon Humanities offers teachers the chance to explore the nature of work, the challenges and opportunities of tomorrow’s workers.

Oregon secondary school teachers will have the chance to examine the topic of work at a free summer institute sponsored by Oregon Humanities (formerly Oregon Council for the Humanities).

“The Way We Work: History Lessons for a New Economy” is a free weekend program offered to Oregon secondary school teachers and will be held July 8–11, 2010, at Reed College in Portland. The registration deadline for the institute is April 23, 2010. Interested teachers may register online at oregonhumanities.org.

Enrollment is limited and preference is given to first-time participants and full-time Oregon secondary school teachers. Institute participants earn thirty hours of continuing education credit. Two optional graduate credits... More

Oregon Council for the Humanities offers teachers the chance to explore the history and current issues of immigration nationally and in the Northwest.

Oregon secondary school teachers will have the chance to examine the topic of immigration at a free summer institute sponsored by the Oregon Council for the Humanities (OCH).
“The Unfinished Nation: Immigration and American Life” is a free weekend program offered to Oregon secondary school teachers and will be held July 17-19, 2009, at Southern Oregon University in Ashland. The registration deadline for the institute is April 17, 2009.
Enrollment is limited and preference is given to full-time Oregon secondary school teachers. Institute participants earn thirty hours of continuing education credit. Two graduate credits are available through the host institution for a per credit fee. Applications are available at More

Why is it so difficult to talk candidly about how class shapes our identities, our institutions, and our shared culture? The Oregon Council for the Humanities (OCH) is offering Oregon secondary school teachers an opportunity to examine this issue at a free summer institute.
“Decoding Class: Money, Mobility, and the American Dream” is a free weekend program offered to Oregon secondary school teachers and will be held July 18-20, 2008, at Oregon State University’s Cascades Campus in Bend. Teachers will explore class in literature, history, and popular culture; social and economic mobility as the basis of the American Dream; the role of class in contemporary culture; and the intersections of class with religion, race, and gender. Oregon teachers have the opportunity to continue the learning process throughout the summer by enrolling in two free institutes hosted by the Oregon Council of Humanities (OCH).
Twenty-first Century Citizen: The Transformation of American Public Life will be held at Reed College June 29-July 1, 2007 and is open to all Oregon secondary school teachers. Crossroads of Knowledge: Science and the Human Experience will be held August 6-10 at Eastern Oregon University in La Grande and is offered to teachers in all science and humanities subject areas, with preference given to full-time eastern Oregon secondary school teachers.
