Request for Proposals: Human Resources Consultant

Proposal deadline: February 1, 2019

Oregon Humanities is committed to bringing Oregonians together across differences, beliefs, and backgrounds. Each year, Oregon Humanities offers hundreds of public conversations and programs across the state, trains and supports dozens of discussion leaders, and awards tens of thousands of dollars in grants to organizations that, like us, believe in the power of people in rooms listening, learning, and struggling together. In our magazine and on our website, we publish essays, photographs, films, and audio recordings that explore the thoughts, perspectives, and experiences of Oregonians, especially those who have been ignored, generalized, or oppressed.

Oregon Humanities is seeking a human resources consultant to support and advise on human resources systems, policies, and practices. We are particularly interested in working on the following projects in the coming year:

  • HR, pay structure, and organizational culture audit
  • Personnel systems review and revision, including hiring, onboarding, retention, leadership development, performance evaluation, and terminations
  • Individual support and consultation services for all staff, as needed and ongoing

The Oregon Humanities team is composed of fourteen permanent staff and three temporary or contract staff. HR duties currently are shared between the associate director and a contract finance director, with support from an office administrator.

Oregon Humanities values equity, justice, empathy, and respect as key attributes of vital, flourishing communities. We encourage proposals from candidates or organizations with diverse backgrounds, particularly those from historically underrepresented groups, whose professional and personal experiences will help us work toward our vision of an Oregon that invites diverse perspectives, explores challenging questions, and strives for just communities. All proposals will be reviewed for consultants’ knowledge of and experience with diversity, equity, and inclusion policies and practices.
